FAQs
Working at a camp is very different from working most other summer jobs. You will be actively working outside, interacting and bonding with both campers and staff. Most importantly, you will be creating memories that will stay with children forever.
Camp is a great resume builder for prospective job opportunities as well as for college applications. Employers and colleges understand that working at camp entails hard work, patience, working with people, communicating and quick decision making.
Rolling Hills has a fun staff recreation program which fosters great friendships among our staff members. This is one of the many reasons you will want to return to Rolling Hills for many years to come.
In the “Work @ Camp” section of our website, click on the “Apply Now!” button. This will take you to the application which can either be completed online and emailed directly to us, or printed and faxed or mailed after completion. If there is a match between your skills and interests and available openings, we will call to schedule an in-person interview.
Rolling Hills Day Camp offers a variety of positions:
Group Counselors supervise the same group of campers each day. Group counselors ensure that campers are having fun, are safe and following the daily schedule. Group counselors are active participants in all activity areas whether the group is at soccer, ceramics or swimming. Group counselors swim twice a day with their campers.
Specialty Counselors work at an activity each day of the summer. Rolling Hills Specialists are assigned an activity and instruct different campers throughout each day. Some periods are scheduled as a group period and other periods are electives.
Lifeguards are staff with life guarding certifications who teach swimming skills and guard the pool complex.
See Staff Positions for additional employment opportunities.
Rolling Hills Day Camp opens on Monday, June 30 and ends on Friday, August 22, 2025. There is no camp on Thursday, July 4th. All staff must be able to commit to the entire camp season and attend all pre-season training sessions which take place on Saturdays and evenings in June.
Each camp day for a staff member begins at 8:45am and ends at 4:00pm. Rolling Hills is a highly organized and structured camp. Everyone follows a schedule which covers the four main program areas of camp: swim, adventure, creative and athletics.
Our staff enjoy the same high quality lunches that our campers receive, including a hot entrée, full salad bar, pasta, baked potatoes, deli sandwiches, bagels, yogurt, fresh fruit, dessert and so much more!
Your personal appearance is important because you are a role model for impressionable children. We provide staff members with staff shirts which must be worn every day of camp. All staff (except lifeguards) must wear sneakers during the camp day. Sandals may only be worn while walking back and forth to the pool. Group counselors are required to swim twice each day and must therefore bring or wear a bathing suit (one piece or sports style) under their staff shirt and shorts. All Staff Members MUST wear a watch every day.
Many staff members take advantage of our convenient shuttle bus, which departs from a shopping center close to camp. Other staff members carpool with at least 2 other staff members and are then allowed to park at camp. A small number of staff members are hired for additional pay to be bus counselors. If space allows, staff members may be able to ride on a Rolling Hills Bus from a designated stop close to their home.
Our salaries are highly competitive and vary by the position for which you are hired. Staff members are paid 4 times during the summer, on Fridays of weeks 2, 4, 6 and 8.
We are strongly committed to supporting our staff members throughout the summer with on-going training and guidance. All staff must be able to commit to the entire camp season and attend all pre-season training sessions which take place on Saturdays and evenings in June.
